Week 3 Post Op- The Proverbial Kink came today. My Tibial Plateau Fracture

How my life has changed.  Over the years, I've had many injuries.  Mostly from sports that are a huge part of my life, even at 54.  I am truly humbled with this injury.  I've had pretty smooth sailing so far, even with the pain and usual hiccups with an injury of this magnatude.   Yesterday, I started the workout plan I formulated to safely maintain my muscles while I recover my knee.  I thought it was a well worked out plan that would get me back to normal in the most timely fashion possible.  I will blog a bit later of the details of what I thought to be a rock solid schedule. I thought if I did it 3 x per day, with ice after I'd be golden...  Not so.

Last night I tossed and turned all night not being able to get ahead of my pain with drugs, ice or elevation.  It was an ache that wouldn't stop.  This morning I woke and noticed my incision looked strange.  Kind of a weird lump and more swelling than normal.  I snapped a pic and sent it to my doc.  I was a bit concerned because of the possibility of infection with the hardware or bone graft.  I had experienced fluid drainage when my stitches were removed and also thought that I may just have fluid instead.  Turns out it is most likely fluid (I don't have a fever, feel sick, etc that would accompany an infection at this time).  They told me to gauze and compression wrap my leg, ice and rest.  Most likely, I just over did it yesterday and it's a bit angry.  What I didn't know, is that at 3 weeks post op, if it breaks open and drains, even without infection it warrants an immediate surgery to clean and re-seal the incision.
